Julie Says "Get Screened!"

Julie Morgan, MP for Cardiff North, has put down an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons supporting European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week which takes place from January 20th to 26th.

Julie Morgan said:
“Next week, during the European Cervical Cancer Prevention week, I hope that all women take a moment to think about their health and become aware of the importance of cervical cancer prevention.

“I would like to encourage all women who receive a cervical screening reminder to make an appointment and get themselves checked out. It’s so easy to get caught up in the rush of everyday life and to put something like this off, but it’s so important for women to take care of themselves. Early detection can be so important in saving lives. The NHS Cervical Screening Programme saves 4,500 lives per year.

“I am pleased that the Government has made great strides on this issue already by introducing routine HPV vaccines for girls of 12-13 from September of this year and I hope it will go on to offer women between 20 and 25 access to cervical screening or the HPV vaccine. Organisations like Jo’s Trust have led a fantastic campaign on this issue.

“It’s time to get aware, make an appointment and get screened.”
