Julie Agrees that Plastic is not so Fantastic
Julie Morgan, MP for Cardiff North, has welcomed the Chancellor’s proposals to help the environment in today’s Budget.
Julie Morgan MP said:
“I welcome the measures announced in the Budget today for pensioners, families and children, and I particularly welcome the measures to help tackle climate change, and specifically the Government’s proposal to eliminate single-use carrier bags.
“I think we all realise that going to the supermarket and loading our shopping into plastic bags which we use once and then throw away is not good for the environment. I welcome the Government’s commitment to eliminate the use of these bags and create more long-lasting and sustainable alternatives. Using plastic bags in the way we have been using them is not so fantastic for the environment.
“I support the Government’s plan to introduce laws by 2009 and impose a charge if retailers do not take voluntary action on this issue.
“Climate change is something that affects us all and something that all of us in Wales can do something about.
“I applaud the way that the Government has taken a lead on this issue and very much welcome the various measures that it is proposing. We can all do our part when it comes to cutting the carbon.”
