Julie Supports Whales for Wales
Julie Morgan, MP for Cardiff North, has adopted a humpback whale called Gatch. And as Japan continues with its plans to kill over 1000 whales in the Southern Ocean this year, she has agreed to do all she can to ensure safe passage for the whale both this year and in the future.
Julie Morgan MP said:
“I am pleased that Japan has decided not to target humpback whales this season, but they have offered no assurance not to do so in the future.
“And the plan to kill over 1000 other whales anyway, including the endangered fin whale, in the Antarctic this year is very disturbing – such slaughter is wholly unnecessary and there is no justification for it, scientific or otherwise.
“When the International Fund for Animal Welfare approached me about adopting a whale, I was happy to do so and I hope that many others in Wales will consider joining IFAW’s campaign.
“The UK government has led the international pressure against the whaling nations and continues to challenge Japan’s position on this issue. It’s so important that we conserve our whales worldwide – they must not be hunted to the brink of extinction.
“I’m sure that Wales can lend its support to whales!”
