OUT AND ABOUT

NOVEMBER 26TH 2010:
I was delighted to be invited to Abertillery Comprehensive School to talk about human rights and, in particular, Rosa Parks, the Dalai Lama and Aung San Suu Kyi. The students were very engaged with the issues and made wonderful contributions to the assembly.

NOVEMBER 25TH 2010:
I spoke at the Cardiff North Labour Women’s Forum event to mark the International Day to Eliminate Violence Against Women. We gathered at the Nye Bevan statue in Cardiff and lit candles to show our support for all those women who have been subjected to violence. The vigil was also supported by Welsh Women’s Aid, Amnesty International, and BAWSO.

NOVEMBER 25TH 2010:
It was lovely to go to the Llandaff North Christmas lights celebration. Great community support for the evening. Christmas is coming!
NOVEMBER 15TH 2010:
I met with Cancer Research UK and the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health in London to discuss progress of the Sunbeds Act. Click here to read my concerns about progress in England. Going well in Wales.
(Pictured presenting a petition on the issue to Number 10 earlier this year).
NOVEMBER 10TH 2010:
I was proud to march alongside Cardiff Labour Students in London to protest against increasing tuition fees and the scrapping of the Educational Maintenance Allowance. The ConDem coalition has broken every promise made to the Higher Education community.
NOVEMBER 8TH 2010:
I was delighted to attend a curry night at the Cardiff City Stadium in aid of the Fred Keenor Statue Appeal – it was expected to have raised around £700 for the fund.

OCTOBER 21ST 2010:
I went to say a few words about Burma to support Burma Solidarity Week at Cardiff University. In 2008, I held a Spotlight on Burma event at the Wales Millennium Centre.

OCTOBER 20th: 2010
I spoke at the United Nations Association about The Challenges Facing Women Today. Very moving words from women from Zimbabwe. This event marked United Nations Day 2010.

OCTOBER 16th 2010:
I spoke at Welsh Labour’s Women’s Conference – it was an inspiring day. Packed out – great solidarity.

OCTOBER 10th 2010:
I took part in the George Thomas Hospice Walk for Hope. AS Vice-President of the hospice, I was delighted to support such a wonderful charity.

OCTOBER 7TH 2010:
I was honoured to give the 3rd Annual Betsi Cadwaladr lecture for RCN Cymru on my life as a campaigner.

OCTOBER 4th 2010:
I went to Cathays High School to support Amnesty’s campaign against the death penalty. It was wonderful to see so many students involved in the issue. I also went to Cathays for their Prize-Giving evening in September.

SEPTEMBER 24TH 2010:
I held my 10th annual Macmillan Coffee Morning at the Village Kitchen in Whitchurch. Because of the generosity of everyone who came (including students from Whitchurch High School), we raised a tremendous £601.

Out and about in Cardiff North – and beyond!
