VISITORS FROM CARDIFF NORTH

I am always happy to welcome constituents from Cardiff North to the Houses of Parliament, as well as others with links to Cardiff and Wales.

Sometimes they come up for specific events, sometimes for tours and sometimes to lobby me about particular issues.

March 10th 2010: I was delighted to welcome three members of Step Up Cymru to the Houses of Parliament to give them an insight into how things work in Westminster. Step Up Cymru is a mentoring scheme supported by the National Assembly, the Welsh Assembly Government and the WLGA and provides mentoring opportunities for those from under-represented groups. It was great to see them. In the picture below, you can see Bismwa, Diana and Constantino pictured with me on the House of Commons terrace.

March 8th 2010: It was lovely to meet two constituents who came to the House of Commons to compete in the national scientific poster competition, SET for Britain. It was very interesting to talk to both Yuan Lei and Tom Crick about their research – you can see them pictured below.

October 20th 09: I was very happy to meet students from Llanishen High School to find out about the work they have been doing to raise awareness about asthma in both their school and local community. Iwan Matheson, Jack Meggitt-Phillips, Simon Winton and Alex Martin were in the House of Commons at the finals of Asthma UK’s Listen Up! Campaign  and it was inspiring to hear about their efforts to educate people about asthma and to raise funds for Asthma UK. They are planning a primary school asthma conference for next year and I was very impressed by both their hard work and ambition.

October 15th 09: It was lovely to accompany Stephanie Wilkins from Llandaff North to Number 10 for a reception to honour Community Heroes. Stephanie is a real hero who does tremendous work in the community – she is Chair of Friends of Hailey Park, Friends of Melingriffith Water Pump, Llandaff North Residents’ Association and Save Hawthorn School Building Action Group. Here we are pictured with Gordon and Sarah Brown.
