WHY?

 

 

 

Parliamentary Expenses: One of “THE SAINTS” – Daily Telegraph, May 23rd 2009.

 

 

Independent-Minded MP: Voted against the war in Iraq, against top-up tuition fees, and against the

renewal of Trident. Supported the Gurkhas from the start of their campaign.

 

 

Active Backbench MP: One of the very few backbenchers to get her own Act of Parliament on the statute

book – an Act to stop under-18s from using sunbeds. Regularly raises issues on the floor of the House of

Commons.

 

 

Supports Electoral Reform: Supported Proportional Representation for the Welsh Assembly and believes

that there should be a system of PR for Westminster elections. Supports a totally elected second chamber.

 

 

Supports Families and Children: Supported huge increases in Child Benefit, Child Tax Credits and the right to

request flexible working, chairs Children in Wales group in Parliament, supports Foundation Phase in infant

education.

 

 

Campaigns Vigorously on Local Issues: Fighting for Cardiff Bus passengers, fighting for Llanishen Reservoir,

fighting for ASW pensioners, fighting for local Equitable Life members.

 

 

Supports Women: Chairs Sex Equality group in Parliament, supported increased maternity leave and pay

(and agrees with an increase in paternity leave), and stronger domestic violence legislation.

 

 

Supports Older People: Supported free bus passes, pension credits, the Winter Fuel Payment, free eye-tests,

free TV licences for the over-75s.

 

 

Supports the Environment: Supported Acts on sustainability and Climate Change.

 

 

Helps Constituents: Runs both a fully-staffed office and casework office in Cardiff North and has helped thousands

of constituents with problems.

 

 

Supports Progressive Measures: Voted for the ban on fox hunting, for Civil Partnerships, the National Minimum

Wage, no smoking in public places, free entry to national museums.
