DECEMBER 2nd - 8th 2011

IN THE SENEDD

On Tuesday, December 6th, I came in on Question 4 to the First Minister:

Julie Morgan : I am pleased that the First Minister agrees that the Olympics will provide good sporting role models for women and girls, in particular. Will he be supporting role models like Hannah Mills, who has been selected for the Great Britain Olympic sailing team and who did her training on Llanishen reservoir, in my constituency of Cardiff North, which is sadly drained at the moment?

I also took part in the Debate on Tobacco Control:

Julie Morgan : I also welcome this important debate, and I hope that we will be able to build on the great achievements that have already been made in the Assembly. I want to focus on two points. First, I welcome the Government’s commitment to review the exemption for residential mental health units under the Smoke-free Premises etc. (Wales) Regulations 2007. I am also pleased that a task and finish group is being set up to look at the mental health service in relation to smoking.

I attended the Public Accounts Committee.

On Wednesday, December 7th, I came in on Question 10 to the Minister for Health and Social Services:

Julie Morgan : How can the Minister ensure that relatives are aware that they are welcome to go into hospitals at mealtimes in order to help their relatives to eat their meals? It seems that there are mixed messages from different wards throughout Wales about whether relatives are welcome to come in to help feed the patients.

I also asked Question 7 in Questions to the Assembly Commission:

7. Julie Morgan : What is the Assembly Commission doing to engage women in the work of the National Assembly.

I went to support the DogsTrust Christmas campaign, A dog is for life, not just for Christmas. At this time of year, we need to make sure that puppies don’t become abandoned presents:

On Thursday, December 8th, I attended the Children and Young People Committee.

OUT AND ABOUT

On Friday, December 2nd, I went to the annual Huggard Centre Sleep Out. Huggard is a registered charity which runs a Day Centre, Emergency Bed Unit and supported houses offering support and resettlement in the community.

On Saturday, December 3rd, I held a surgery on the Hollybush estate.
I then went on to soak up the festive atmosphere at the annual Victorian-themed event in Rhiwbina Village.

On Sunday, December 4th, I attended and spoke at the Eid Party in the County Club in Cardiff.

On Monday, December 5th, I was delighted to read the wonderful ‘Christmas 1914’ poem by Mike Harding at a Bobath event in Whitchurch.

On Wednesday, December 7th, I went to support the launch of The H’mm Foundation: ‘The newly formed H'mm Foundation is seeking to bridge the gap between poets and people by bringing modern poetry more into the public domain and particularly to the workplace.’ It was particularly good to hear from the National Poet of Wales, Gillian Clarke.

On Thursday, December 8th, I did an interview for BBC Five Live about the termination of the Oybikes scheme in Cardiff. Read my press release here.
